Hello and welcome to the Hut
(Great Shades of Bletchley Park!)
Most of you know that I will be Lindaâs research assistant and writing partner as she tells her own story. Yes itâs true. I am another of the famous Drake sisters fresh out of Philly. (Fresh out of the high desert, actually.)
I found the Townsend Brown story and this group of forum followers last year while searching for information on electro culture in organic farming. Google pointed me to the original discussion forum and I read Paul's book with ever-increasing excitement.
Of course I came away with a great curiosity about this woman named Linda Brown who had lived such an unusual life and documented it so incredibly well. But unlike most readers, I also came away with the certainty that the two of us must live within a short distance of each other. This turned out to be the case. For the next few months we met for occasional meals, during which we either tried to piece together episodes in Townsend Brown's life or tried to imagine the probable future of Defying Gravity.
What I knew about Linda that she didnât know herself, was that sheâs a great writer. As a semi professional writer who sometimes gets paid for what I do, I recognized her talent when l encountered her quoted journal entries in the pages of that first book. After Paul came to the conclusion that he had Epically Failed I encouraged her to pick up the banner and finish the task that seemed incomplete to us both and I am happy and honored to be part of the support network for this project.
For those with an interest in academic and professional qualifications, I have degrees in history and business administration and an ABD in Higher Education from the University of Michigan. I have been a logistics engineer, a systems analyst, a project manager, a college teacher and an instructional designer for an early distance education program that received an award from the Smithsonian Museum . Now I am a gardener and a Drake sister who is happy to be here.
A lot of collective effort went into pulling this forum together. My wonderfully talented husband, The Astrologer, loaned his graphics skills and fine eye to the website design. Raymond brought us his webmaster services, and Fred setup the forum itself. (Linda, Radomir, and I have just tried to keep out of the way of flying saws and hammers}. But none of this would have been possible without the support and encouragement of the anonymous benefactor who donated the site. I am deeply grateful to all of you for making this happen.
Welcome to all of the old and new friends who have found us. I am looking forward to continuing the discussions that we have kept rolling from forum to forum. If you have just joined us, please don't be shy about chiming in and introducing yourself.
